Funnies from Kyle...

I've been trying to keep track of some of the more funny things out of Kyle's mouth lately. He says something that makes me laugh everyday, but here are some of the good ones.

Kyle had been messing around and spilled something, making a mess on the kitchen floor. I had him clean it up and said, "What do you say for spilling that?" I was looking for sorry. Instead he looked at me and said, "Dang it!!"

~~~~~~~~~~~
In one of my finer parenting moments, after telling Kyle something multiple times, I said, "Stop it now, Kyle! I'm fed up!" Well, the next day he told me I was "filling him up." Then the day after that he walked by me muttering, "Erin is filling me up."
~~~~~~~~~~~

Along similar lines, Kyle confused another saying. He was grumping about something and Mike was, well, egging him on. Kyle came in to me to complain, and I said, "Go tell Daddy to quit egging you on." I knew Kyle didn't understand it, but thought it would be funny if he said it to Mike. Kyle picked up the line "leave me alone" from school. Well, from that point on Kyle spent several days telling us to "egg him alone."

~~~~~~~~~~~
Erin was banging something on the TV screen, and Kyle kept telling her, "No, no Erin!" She stopped, and Kyle looked at me and said, "I had to tell Erin to stop four times before she stopped."
I said, "How many times do I have to tell you to do something?" He looked at me and said, "Only three."
~~~~~~~~~~~

We had a babysitter, and Mike and I were standing in the kitchen commenting on something she did. I said, "Yeah, Hannah is a really good sitter." Kyle was in the kitchen also, and chimed in saying, "She's a really good walker, too!"

~~~~~~~~~~~
Being a grammar geek, Kyle is being raised to speak proper grammar. We were standing in the kitchen and I was holding something. Kyle said, "Who is that Mom?" I told him, "You say 'What is that?' What is a thing, and who is a person." Kyle quickly replied, "I am a person!"
~~~~~~~~~~~

After an incident I was explaining to Kyle that he knows better than to stand on chairs. I said, "Kyle, if you had not being standing on that big tall chair you would not have fallen and gotten hurt." His reply was, "I didn't fall, Mommy. I jumped!" And that is my boy.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Another example of his "boyness" is that I came downstairs from laying Erin down for a nap and asked Kyle why the door was open. He said, "Oh. I just wanted to pee outside." Sigh. (And the hook is being moved to keep him IN. He can reach it this summer.)
~~~~~~~~~~~

Kyle asked me if he was going to be a grown-up. I told him, "Some day. But Mommy wants you to stay my little boy for longer." Kyle answered back, "I want you to stay my grown-up, Mommy." Awwwww.... he very often melts my heart.

Plant Swap

I was lucky enough to be invited to a plant swap by my friend Jessica. Her parents hold it every year at their house. The idea behind it is that you split up whatever you have an abundance of, show up with it, and leave with someone else's extras. It's a great way to keep your garden from overgrowing, and to expand it with new things at the same time.

Being new to gardening, I slunk in with nothing to share. It was okay though, because many people brought way more than they were leaving with. I was able to get some really cool things for the perennial garden plot I am working on. Kyle's favorite thing that I came home with was a sensitive plant, which closes up its leaves when you touch it. It has been planted in a spot where he can easily touch it all he wants. I also brought home a plant called Obedient. This is also for Kyle to look at, but so far it has had no effect, lol. Other things I brought home include Sun Drops, an Easter lily, some decorative grass, and a Rose of Sharon.

Here are some pictures from the swap, from Jessica's parent's gardens, and some close up shots of their flowers.

Summer vacation!!

We're on summer vacation in our house now. Well, some of us. Summer for Mike is the BUSY time. But Kyle had his last day of school on Wednesday, his last day of play group on Thursday, and he's foot loose and fancy free for the summer now. I'm really looking forward to this. I'm hoping to let Erin finally have a little bit of a schedule of her own, rather than one that revolves around Kyle. I'm looking forward to being spontaneous in our days, yet at the same time having a bit more routine in our scheduling. I'm excited to have fun day trips to the beach, museums, and play dates with friends.

Here are some things that marked this week leading up to summer.

Tuesday night KidZone had a preschool graduation. While Kyle was not one of the graduates, he did participate in the ceremony. Here is a picture from it. I won't share the video, which is every other preschooler singing and Kyle standing with his finger in his mouth. Oh, and doing the crab walk. Yep, that's my boy. Kyle's last play group was a picnic in the park. It was really fun. It makes me sad to know that it was literally his last play group. Next year he will be in school on Thursdays, so it will just be Erin and I going. He really loved play group and I'm hoping he will be enjoying school so much he won't realize he doesn't get to go anymore. Here are some park pictures.
Mark and Kimberly (Mike's brother and his wife) gave us their swingset since they're kids have outgrown it. Kyle is loving it and I'm sure he's going to be on it every day this summer. And another sign of summer is this. Kyle wore shorts for the first time this week. Less than a half an hour later he was sporting his first skinned knee. Poor kid. Not to mention that his shins are basically a patchwork of bruises. He is rough and tumble I tell you. So bring on the dirt, sweat, sunscreen, bug spray, beach sand and every other kind of grime. As much as I like being clean, I am ready for SUMMER!!

Erin's first birthday!

After a rough lead up to her birthday, Erin ended up having a good birthday! She had a fever starting on Tuesday evening, and by Friday we were at the doctor because it was 103. No indication of anything other than a virus, though. Saturday morning it was clear as day though when she woke up with a roseola rash. The rash always comes after the virus, so by Saturday she was good to go. And since everyone in the world over one has had roseola and is contagious for life, according to my Baby 411 book, I didn't have to worry about Erin infecting anyone.

So Erin got to go out for breakfast on her birthday, wearing her Birthday Girl shirt and First Birthday hat. She got lots of attention. And since we'd canceled her party already, we ended up going out for dinner, too, where again she got lots of attention.

We were able to have her party on Sunday and it was a beautiful day. We had a great time with our families here, and Erin got some super presents.

Here is the picture I used on Erin's birthday party invitations.Erin opening gifts from us on her birthday.Erin's party on Sunday. I was amazed when she opened the doll. How incredible nature is... she is a mothering nurturer already. The first thing she did was hold that doll tight and hug it. She hugs and kisses it all the time. What a sweet girl Erin is!

Happy 1st Birthday Erin!!!

Our dear sweet Erin is one today! I can hardly believe it, where has the time gone? I know it sounds cliche, but it really does seem that I just brought her home. And now she is walking with confidence, adding new teeth (she's up to three "good" ones and two more have broken through), and learning new things with ease. She never ceases to amaze me with her happiness, charm, and smarts. My heart is always warmed to watch her, and to watch Kyle with her. What friends they are!

Unfortunately she is ending her first year in a little bit of rough shape. She's got a virus that had her at the doctor's twice this week. Yesterday her fever was 103 and she was absolutely miserable. As with any virus, we just have to let it run its course. It also means her birthday party had to be rescheduled. I did get a height and weight this week, and at 28-3/4 inches she is 30th percentile for height. Her weight was 19.5 pounds, putting her at the 25th percentile.

Happy, happy birthday Erin!!! You'll always be our baby girl no matter how much you grow up! Here's a look back at Erin's first year.

I love a parade....

And so do Kyle and Erin!! We went to the Grand Floral Parade in St. Joseph on Saturday, which is part of the Blossomtime Festival. Kyle always loves parades, and Erin is following along in his footsteps. She stared at it all fascinated. I thought she would fall asleep, but not a wink. We went with Beth, Troy, and Jack. Kyle, as always, loved hanging out with Jack. The weather was perfect, too. Sunny and sweatshirt temps. What a great time!!

The group, minus Mike and Troy who were getting coffee, lol.
Kyle said his favorite part of the whole parade was waving his flag!
The kiddos...
And characters that make parades great for kids: Ronald McDonald, Dora and Clifford. (Well, Ronald McDonald, "Explorer Girl," and "Red Dog." I think they are avoiding licensing costs, lol!)
The Indianapolis police motorcycles are always a huge draw every year with their acrobatic moves.
St. Bernard rescue.
A parade post has to have at least one float picture!
The St. Joseph High School marching band... my old band.
And here is Kyle after we gone home. He was tuckered out!

Parked it this week

Ahhhh, we hit the park this week for the first time! It rained all week here for the most part, but we had a break in it Wednesday afternoon and met up with friends at the big park in town. Kyle was in heaven, he so desperately needed a good romp outside. Erin also had fun, although she pretty much only got to swing and be pushed around in the stroller. She did a little walking, but the pea stone would not have been too conducive to her early balancing stages.
Here are some pictures from the park.
