Day Out With Thomas!!

This past Friday we drove to the Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad in Flint. This location is part of the Genesee County Park system, and it was a great park. We attended the Day Out With Thomas, a mecca for all little boys in love with the Thomas the Tank Engine trains.

Kyle was in heaven, and Erin had a great time too. In fact, Mike and I had a great time as well. We got there a bit before our scheduled ride on Thomas and had time to catch the Bob the Builder show while we ate hot dogs for lunch. We then boarded the Thomas train, complete with Thomas' coaches Annie and Clarabel. We were a little further back, so we were on one of the coaches that belongs to the Huckleberry Railroad. It was built in 1882 and came to the park from Northern California. The train ran in the area Wyatt Earpe and his brother retired to, and it is highly likely they rode on the same train in which we sat.

I had worried that the 40 minute train ride might be a tad long for the kids, but they loved it and had no problem sitting through it and watching out the window. They got a kick out of waving at the people we passed (and Erin waved at the trees as well.)

Following the train ride we wandered through the Crossroads Village. There were many older, historical buildings. We got to see a demonstration in the mill of cider being made using a steam engine. We then hit the area with rides and rode on the Ferris wheel, carousal and some other rides.

Finally, it was off to the bouncy toys and the train tables. By the end of the day Kyle was exhausted, but put up quite a stink about leaving. Once we were in the car both kids were asleep before we were out of the park and slept most of the way home.

It was such a great event, in a great location, and all the staff members were so friendly. It's an annual event, and Kyle is asking to go back every day already, so I would not be surprised if we do it again next year.

I had such a hard time narrowing the pictures down that I made a slide show with them. Following that is a 2.5 minute clip with some video from the day. For each you need to click the play arrow to start them. Enjoy, we did!!!

I loved going through all the photos of your family. Honestly, Laura you are so blessed. It is so fun to see your family and it's neat to see how my last two are the same age as your two. It also looked like you just celebrated your 40th..if so, happy birthday!!!
